Where in the world is Bloomington, Indiana?

Part of the exciting life of a College Professor is that there is always a chance to move to a new University either for salary increase, research possibilities, or just to restart your tenure clock. This year we have explored this part of Kieth's profession. It has created a little excitement, confusion, and scrambling in our house. Here's how it works... Every year a schools post openings in your field of study. If they are interested in your area of research, they invite you to come visit, present a paper and interview with them. Then if they like you they make a offer of work load and salary, you think it over, sometimes you discuss it with your present school, and make a decision as to whether you'd like to move schools. We have gone through this whole process four times this year...Raleigh, NC, Lehigh, PA, Logan, UT, and the latest was Bloomington, IN. With every school, I do all the research of whether I, I mean WE, would like to live in that city. It makes me a bit crazy thinking about moving, selling the house, and reestablishing our life somewhere else. Then it pretty much always comes down to me saying, "Keith, we can find a good neighborhood, good schools, and the church anywhere, so you need to make a decision based on what is best for your career." With these four schools, most of them have made offers, but it never seemed right or best for us to move. With one of the schools it was a good lesson learned about the politics that can happen in schools, but never the less, Keith made some great connections with other professors and great feedback on papers he is working on right now. I felt like I need to blog about this because it has obsessed our conversation at home for the past few months.

So, has a decision been made?? We'd hate to lose you.

Of course we don't want you to move, but it would be fun to try out new places. It's always nice to know you're needed!

Sucks for them, but great for us!

P.S. Rob took some fun video of the circus--I'll have him burn you a copy so Garrett and Kendall can enjoy it all over again!

I think I would go crazy with those decisions looming all the time. But in the end we all know you will do what feels right for your family!
